BC’s Extended Pool Season

June 24, 2011
With the mildness of BC’s West Coast weather, what better than an above ground pool to invigorate and enliven your family’s leisure moments?
We recommend that you carefully plan your impending above ground pool purchase. One of the best ways of selecting a model that meets your needs is to first consider the factors listed below.

1 – Site   Measure the available land surface on which you plan to install your aboveground pool. This will immediately provide you with a good idea of the type and size of pool that will best fit into the existing landscape of your yard. If the ground where you are planning to install your pool is sloped, opt for a smaller structure so as to decrease the necessary site preparation work.

2- Preferences   Certain questions concerning your tastes and needs will help you make appropriate choices regarding to your aboveground pool:
· Does the pool’s appearance take precedence over its usefulness?
· Is there a specific type of pool or material that you prefer?
· What will the pool be for? Recreation while at the cottage? Children’s games? Fitness training?

3- Budget     What is your planned budget for purchasing a pool that meets your needs in terms of comfort, durability and appearance?

4- Installing your pool   If you use the services of a professional installation company, plan for some time between the purchase and installation of your aboveground pool. The waiting period will be somewhat longer if you purchase your pool during the summer.  If you plan to install your aboveground pool yourself, we recommend you get at least two other people to help you. For a smoother installation, opt for a sunny day where there is no wind, and prepare the ground adequately ahead of time.  The time needed to assemble the pool will vary according to the pool size and model. Excluding the time necessary to prepare the ground and fill the pool with water, installing a round pool should take about three-five hours, an oval-shaped pool six-eight hours. This generous estimate is provided you are well prepared, have help and are not frustrated easily.

Compare Clarifiers for Spas and Hot Tubs. Spa Clear and Polysheen

June 11, 2010

Fine particles suspended in your water can  make it cloudy. Clarifiers for Spas and Hot Tubs can do different things to your water, all with similar results.  The goal being to  get the water clear and sparkling.

Spa Clear from Natural Chemistry is an all natural 4 in 1 clarifier that uses ‘chitosan’ – the recycled shells of crabs. This product takes  the fine particles and ‘coagulates’ or binds them together so they are large enough for the filter to catch.

While Polysheen from Bioguard, another popular product, puts a temporary fine film over your filter cartridge so as to more readily catch the small particles that are slipping through your filter cartridge.

Hot Tub Execise

February 9, 2009

The health benefits of soaking in a hot tub are many. After soaking for a few minutes, blood vessels dilate, lowering blood pressure. The water provides buoyancy, reducing your heart’s workload by 10 to 20 percent. As a result, muscles relax, temporarily relieving pain. The heat causes sweating, which induces the body to get rid of toxins. And the heat and pressure from the jets raise the level of antibodies and white blood cells, promoting the healing process.

But if those health benefits aren’t enough for you, consider adding exercise to your hot tub time. There are a number of simple and beneficial exercises that can be performed without much effort.

Try standing toe raises or pushes against the sides to exercise calf muscles, or tightening and relaxing the thighs. Use the water’s resistance, or add resistance with your hands and push your knees apart and back together again. Do head circles and shoulder rolls and shrugs. These are also great for promoting relaxation. Put one leg forward and push down on the floor of the hot tub with your foot. Make fists and squeeze or clasp your hands in front of you and squeeze your elbows together. Practice pulling in your abdominal muscles and holding.

Perform each exercise for three seconds, and build up to ten repetitions each.

English and Lepage does not recommend you mix these ideas with alcohol, but if you choose to do so, make sure you always swim with at least ONE buddy ;-)
