Perfect Pool Water Test at E and L….

July 11, 2011

Nice work Joe! Congratulations on your perfectly balanced pool :-)

NEW from Natural Chemistry – COVERfree – solar barrier

June 18, 2011

Natural Chemistry’s CoverFree is a fantastic, chemical-free option in liquid solar blankets. This polymer based formula is applied directly to your pool water and forms a odorless, colorless blanket that reduces heat and chemical evaporation to extend the fun of your swimming season.

Swimming pools lose energy in a variety of ways, but evaporation is by far the largest source of enrgy loss. Evaporating water requires a tremendous amount of energy. It only takes 1 BTU (British Thermal Unit) to raise 1lb of water 1 degree Farenheit, but each pound of 80 degree Farenheit water that evaporates takes a whopping 1,048 BTUs of heat out of the pool.

1 gallon = 8.33 pounds

So, for every gallon of 80 degree farenheit water that is lost due to evaporation we lose 8,729 BTUs of energy

COVERfree’s patent pending advanced mono-layer technology offers users the ability to save water and money by decreasing evaporation by up to 85% and heat loss up to 70%.

This environmentally safe product goes unnoticed by swimmers, while making your  conventional solar cover more effective because it continues to work at full strength holding heat in while the pool is in use. This product is safe for use in any type of swimming pool and will not interfere with sanitization methods or chemical balance. Simply apply CoverFree to your pool water once a week and let it do the work for you.

Perfect Pool Water Test at E & L….

Congratulations to Phil – A perfect pool water test :)

Close or Winterize Your Pool (no algaecide option), protect your investments :)

August 30, 2010

If you can’t use your pool during winter months, protect your investments and shut down the pool completely. Closing your pool properly makes next season’s start up easy and avoids time-consuming clean up and costly repairs. **Scroll to the bottom of this post for recommendations on just a partial close–since some of us prefer not to deal with the slimy mess that can end up on your winter cover…

  WINTERIZING YOUR POOL

1) Bring a water sample to ENGLISH & LEPAGE to find out what is needed to balance your water and insure there are no irregularities.

    a) Adjust the alkalinity to 80-150 ppm.

    b) Adjust pH to 7.2-7.6

   c) Adjust calcium hardness to 150-280 ppm

   d) Ensure sanitizer is at correct level (A green pool will need to be cleared before winterizing)

2) Physically clean the pool. Brush the sides down and vacuum the bottom.  Empty out the skimmer basket(s) and the pump’s hair trap.

3) A shock treatment (HiberShock or Smartshock) is necessary to oxidize any disolved organic material that physical cleaning and filtration could not remove.

4) Add METALfree directly to pool.

5) Add Pool Magic+PHOSfree through the skimmer with pump on. **Run pump and filter for 24 hours before continuing with next step.

6) Partially drain the pool to about 3-4″ below the skimmer.  Drain/blowout all lines and plug outlets.  Unscrew and remove directional ball from center and each outlet and plug with winterizing plug.  Remove both baskets- skimmer and pump.

7) Install cover over your pool and tie-down or secure it with water bags around the full perimeter to prevent debris and wind from going under the cover.  This should also help to prevent wind damage to your winter cover.

WINTERIZING YOUR FILTER–

1) Drain the sand filter by opening all plugs, (as well as the two plugs on the pump) and turn the sand filter handle to winterize to aid drainage. Make sure to store plugs in a safe place-as with the pump and skimmer baskets.

2) Remove pressure guages and store inside.

3) Leave all gate valves three-quarters open (except in basement installations).

WINTERIZING YOUR HEATER–Drain and evacuate water from interior lines, refill lines with appropriate anti-freeze.

PARTIAL WINTER CLOSINGSome people prefer not to completely shut down their pool. In this case you must keep pool balanced (alka, pH and calcium) and the filtration system is kept running, even if only a few hours a day. In the event of temperatures dropping below freezing, the filtration system should be kept on full time to prevent the pipes from freezing.
